Alberta Initiative to Prevent Child Abuse
 

Applewood Inter-agency Committee
Purpose: to improve coordination and communication between agencies working with residents of the Applewood Calgary Housing Complex and to reduce barriers to health & social services for this community

 

Calgary Ability Network
Purpose: To raise awareness of issues pertaining to persons with disabilities and to influence policy changes that affect persons with disabilities.

 

Calgary Domestic Violence Committee
Purpose: To address policy and systemic issues regarding domestic and family violence. Focus on housing and response for marginalized populations.

 

Calgary Immigrant Services Interagency Network
Purpose: Networking with organizations that serve newcomers and education on issues facing this population.

 

Calgary Learning Village Collaborative Coordinator’s Circle
Purpose: Partner organization employees who work on CLVC activities. Current focus is implementing cultural competency training in eight schools, connecting with Aboriginal programs and services, working with schools to meet identified needs.

 

Calgary Learns - Board of Directors
Purpose: to promote, support and celebrate lifelong learning through funding innovative projects and programs that provide foundational learning opportunities for Calgarians.

Chinese Emotional Health Carnival Committee
Purpose: To bring together service providers and community agencies to plan an annual event to raise awareness of mental health issues in the Chinese community.

 

Coalition for Equal Access to Education
Purpose: The Coalition for Equal Access to Education is committed to working with community, education and government stakeholders to promote access to quality, equitable education and services for K-12 ESL learners. Current initiatives include implementing the Sudanese Education Centre.

 

Community Development Communities of Practice Activities Committee
Purpose: To encourage, facilitate and initiate events and activities that contribute to the learning of community development practitioners.

 

Community Safety for Immigrant Women
Purpose: To work on an initiative for a place of respite for immigrant women experiencing domestic abuse.

 

East Calgary Sudanese Youth Service Providers Committee
Purpose: To coordinate services for Sudanese youth and their families. Current initiatives focus on youth engagement through a youth talent/fashion show and resource fair.

 

Global Advisory Council for Language Line
Purpose: To set international standards for Health Care Interpreters in the US and Canada

 

Immigrant and Refugee Health Community of Practice
Purpose: to bring together providers, policy makers, researchers and program developers to talk about immigrant and refugee health issues.

 

Immigrant Sector Council of Calgary
Purpose: Executive Directors of Immigrant Servings Organizations and representatives from other sectors meet to discuss newcomer issues.

Refugee Mental Health Initiatives Committee
Purpose: To develop short and long term strategies around mental health for refugees.

 

Sudanese Youth Service Providers Committee
Purpose: To respond to the needs of Sudanese youth in the Greater Forest Lawn area.

 

Youth Diversity Cup
Purpose: A weekend soccer tournament in Forest Lawn for youth from culturally diverse backgrounds to learn about team building & sportsmanship, and make new friends. Resource Fair for community members.
