Edmonton Interpretation Services

Communication with patients who speak little or no English is a challenge that health professionals face everyday. The Royal Alexandra Hospital and the University Hospital of Alberta have a team of trained interpreters who are available as part of the care team to ensure clear communication with patients and their families and enhance the quality of care that is provided.

Interpretation Services Available

Several types of language interpreters are available based on the nature and the urgency of the specific case:

Cantonese/Vietnamese interpreter on site at the Royal Alexandra Hospital
Trained interpreters in 30 languages from Centralized Interpreter Services, a program of The Family Centre
Aboriginal languages interpreters
Bilingual staff at Royal Alexandra Hospital and the University Hospital of Alberta in urgent situations
Over the phone interpreters for urgent needs are available 24/7
Certified American Sign Language Interpreters from Connect Society
